Crystal Weathers Unit: Biographies
Crystal Weathers reflection on biography unit.
This was a unit that took quite a bit more time than I had planned on. I spent over a week just with mentor texts and noticing charts which was much needed. Students decided on the format based on the books we had read. They especially liked the books that added About the Author. The writing process was slow because they had to interview thier person and it was going back and forth and back forth trying to get information to include in their books. I also decided to let them bring in pictures and that took some time also to scan and include in their books. I think that the children were very interested in the biography because I tried to include mentor text that they could relate to; celebrities, athletes etc. Overall this unit worked out well, but I will set aside more time next year to work.
