This page is designed to share the advertisements pieces we have written in class as a result of our  unit of study.  Our course text, Units of Study is based on the underlying framework that what we write should be inspired by what we read. From immersing ourselves in a variety of well-written advertisement text and spending time in close study noticing author's craft, we have each tried our hands at writing our own advertisement pieces.  Please post yours here and specifically address "What have you read that is like what you are trying to write?"  In other words, let us know your mentor text(s) and any author's craft you were intentional about implementing.   *Please add your first and last name and the title and author of your text with your post.

Mentor Advertisements used from various magazines that the students brought from home and my classroom collection.  This unit went very well.  The students created a class noticing chart as I showed them advertisements on the overhead.  We created an anchor chart of what we noticed.  The students then were given different types of magazines to use as a way to create their own "noticings" as a team.  Then we created a collage poster for bandwagon advertisements and testimonials.  These were also used as anchor charts during the course of study.  Students then were given a rubric to create a commercial script and advertisement to perform in front of the class.  I gave a final assessment on propaganda and advertisement in a teacher created test.  Many standards were addresed during this unit and the students gained a hands-on perspective of being actual writers and speakers of commericals.  Overall, this unit is one that I will use again next year.
